Many seniors find themselves homebound, no longer able to grocery shop or regularly prepare meals to feed themselves. Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels (YMOW) cares for these vulnerable members of our community by delivering hot, nutritious meals directly to their homes.
This past year YMOW served more than 52,000 meals to over 200 Washtenaw County residents. To meet the growing need, YMOW aims to expand our capacity by delivering an additional meal per day to each client. Two meals per day will provide substantial health and nutritional benefits, enabling seniors to remain in the comfort of their homes. YMOW needs your support this Holiday season to achieve this goal.
We are seeking 200 donors to pledge a gift of $25 per month ($300 annually), so we can provide two meals per day to each of our homebound clients in 2015.
200 donors + 200 clients = 2 meals a day for all homebound clients
Additionally, if YMOW raises $60,000 in total donations, we will receive matching funds from the following generous partner organizations:
$10,000 from the Ford Motor Co. Fund
$10,000 from the Charter Township of Ypsilanti
Up to $20,000 in additional funding from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B
What would two meals per day mean for our homebound clients?
For most of our clients, Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels is their only source of nutrition. Many live on less than $800 a month. Two reliable meals each day means not only food security, and better health, but also regular personal contact from our staff and volunteers; giving them more independence.
Mr. & Mrs. Reeves are new clients to YMOW, thanks to our No Wait drive to ensure no homebound Senior is turned away. She is an 88-year-old woman who has early stage dementia and difficulty walking due to multiple sclerosis. Her 91-year-old husband recently suffered a massive heart attack, and she didn’t have the ability to travel, buy or prepare meals to care for her and her husband when he was released from the hospital. Mrs. Reeves reports that without Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels, she couldn’t have continued to care for her husband at home. She calls YMOW each day to thank us and our donors for the great food and service we provide to her family.
Help us feed our neighbors like the Reeves. Thank you for all your support.
Donations make the Difference
“Delivering Smiles one meal at a time”
Each year, the contributions made by outside donors help to provide over 52,000 meals to over two hundred homebound individuals. This insures that these individuals are receiving proper nutrition served with a smiling face five days a week. You can help to keep these individuals independent and happy by making a donation to Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels.
We are proud to share that 95 cents of every dollar YOU donate goes directly to support meal delivery to homebound Seniors & the ill in our community.
