Group Opportunities

Group opportunities

Volunteering is even more fun with a friend! Families, office teams, church groups and others play an important part in helping YMOW to fulfill its mission every day.

If your group would like to volunteer, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Jessica Cichowlas at (734) 217-4450 or email her at volunteer@ymow.org.

Here are just a few ways that your group can get involved!

Have an idea that’s not listed here? Tell us about it! We always welcome new and creative ways to connect with our neighbors in need.

Holiday delivery

It’s true that hunger knows no holiday. Volunteers are a vital part of our commitment to deliver meals to homebound neighbors on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Extra help also is needed between these holidays, as many college volunteers are gone for winter break.

All ages are welcome, although children must be accompanied by an adult.

Regular delivery

We’re always looking for individuals and groups to help deliver meals and smiles to our clients. We deliver Monday through Saturday, 52 weeks a year.

All ages are welcome, although children must be accompanied by an adult.

Special Events

Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels holds several annual fundraisers to support our work in the community. You and your friends, co-workers or family can help by getting together to attend our Holiday Home Tour, Meals on Heels or Pi(e) and a Pint.

Card making

Volunteers and staff gather each February to create handmade cards to show our clients that someone cares, but you don’t have to wait for Valentine’s Day to create a handmade greeting.

Get your family, friends or co-workers together to create handmade greetings any time of the year. Our client care associates are happy to deliver your creations as an added treat to a client’s regular meals.

Blanket party

Gather your favorite people for a party that will leave others feeling warm and fuzzy.

Groups can enjoy one another’s company while knitting, crocheting or tying fabric into colorful, warm blankets for our seniors.

Don’t know how to knit or crochet? You can find step-by-step instructions on how to make a hand-tied fleece blanket, throw or lap blanket HERE.

Sponsor a Meal Delivery

Donate the proceeds from your group's bake sale, car wash or other fundraiser to pay for a full day of meals for our clients! $1,000 covers the cost of hot meals for a day and $1,500 pays for two meals for the day. Route sponsorships also are available for as little as $30 a day.

Of course, you're also welcome to deliver the meals you buy. We'll thank you with photos on our Facebook page and website. And our clients will thank you, too.
Other ideas include:
  • Make placemats to brighten up a client's table
  • Make holiday ornaments
  • Create a cup of love and support by decorating a mug and filling it with tea, coffee, cocoa or soup mix
  • Collect items for our personal care pantry
